Road to Recovery
29th Oct 2025When we received an urgent call from a veterinary practice about a beautiful Spaniel cross called Ruby, who desperately needed help, we knew we had to step in.

Ruby
She was suffering from pyometra - a life-threatening womb infection that can only be treated with emergency surgery.
Her owner couldn’t afford the procedure and was facing the devastating decision to have her put to sleep.
With our kennels already full, we faced a dilemma. But we simply couldn’t let an otherwise healthy dog lose her life for financial reasons.
Together with the vets, we agreed to cover the cost of the surgery and Ruby was rushed straight into theatre.

It was a risky operation. Pyometra surgery is far more complex than a normal spay, but thankfully, she pulled through and began her road to recovery with us.
Ruby’s story is exactly why our work matters
Without support from kind people like you, dogs like her wouldn’t get this second chance.
However, emergency surgeries like this are costly and Ruby is just one of the many animals we have cared for this year.
By donating today, you will be helping us to fund life-saving treatment for vulnerable animals, who simply have nowhere else to go.

With you by our side, we can be here for the next dog who desperately needs us and help them on their journey to a happy forever home.
What is Pyometra?
Not spaying a female dog can have serious consequences. One of the biggest risks is pyometra: a severe and potentially fatal infection of the womb that usually affects unspayed, older females.
It can come on suddenly and requires emergency surgery to save the dog’s life. Unlike a routine spay, pyometra surgery is far more complicated, carries higher risks under anaesthetic, and is significantly more expensive.
By choosing to spay your dog, you not only protect them from this dangerous condition but also reduce the risk of other health issues, such as mammary tumours, giving them the best chance of a long and healthy life.

Your donation will save lives
Ruby’s story highlights just one of the dangers of not spaying your dog and if we hadn’t been able to step in and help, it would have been a very different outcome.
Your donation enables us to respond in a crisis and provide life-saving treatment for animals in need – now and in the future.
