A Second Chance
14th May 2025Frightened and alone, with barely a place to call home…
That’s how Willow and her 9 companions must have felt as they endured many, miserable years of irresponsible breeding and neglect.
When these 8 Labradors, 1 Spaniel and 1 Collie arrived into our care, we were shocked by the appalling condition they were in. They had all been exploited and used for breeding purposes and were extremely underweight.
These poor dogs had horrendous teeth, chronic ear infections, swollen pads, with nails growing into them, and flea infestations. We can’t begin to imagine the pain and discomfort these vulnerable souls must have experienced.
After thorough examinations by our vet, and seeing the state of their pads, it was suspected that the dogs were suffering from Hookworm infections.
Following multiple tests, we were devastated when the results came back positive for Hookworms, and as well a nasty bacterium that had led to their ear infections.
Treatments immediately began for both conditions, and we worked around the clock to make sure Willow and her friends were comfortable and surrounded by the kindness and care they should have been exposed to all along.
We soothed them with warm baths, applied flea treatment and cream for their pressure sores and clipped their overgrown nails.
As well as wrapping them up in snuggly fleeces and bedding, we fed the dogs small meals regularly throughout the day, to help them gain weight and get ready to undergo their vital dental and neutering procedures.
Veterinary care like this for just 1 animal comes at a considerable cost to the charity, but providing this treatment for 10 dogs undoubtedly made a significant impact on our already stretched resources.
Being forced to endure such awful conditions for many years, as victims of irresponsible breeding, had, quite understandably, left these innocent dogs traumatised and fearful of humans.
We spent weeks slowly introducing them to new experiences & people, and preparing them for the loving homes they had been deprived of for so long.
By donating today, you will be making a life-changing difference to the next group of animals, like Willow and her pals, who need our help.
Your donation will transform their future
No animal ever deserves to be used for money, and it’s organisations like ours that are left to pick up the pieces when they are no longer required by their breeders.
Your donation will help us to provide our animals with all the crucial care & treatment they need, and give them the greatest gift of all - a second chance at happiness.
