Summer

Name: Summer
Breed: Spaniel
Age: 6
Location: Dorset
Gender: Female
MGAR Reference: 55647
Meet Summer a beautiful 5-year-old female Sprocker (Springer Spaniel x Cocker Spaniel), a busy, brainy girl with a huge love for life and people. She has had limited exposure to the wider world so far, which means she’s still learning how to navigate everyday experiences, but she approaches life with enthusiasm and curiosity.
She is very active and thrives when she has something to do — especially anything that involves using her nose. Scent work, enrichment games, and having a “job” to focus on would suit her perfectly. She absolutely loves playing with a ball and will happily engage with you for playtime and interaction.
In the home, she will need support and guidance to learn how to settle and switch off, as relaxing doesn’t come naturally to her yet. With patience, routine, and clear boundaries, she has great potential to learn this important skill.
She wears a muzzle as part of her regular outing outfit as she is uncomfortable and shows reactivity around other dogs, she can become overwhelmed with dogs approaching her or running and playing in close proximity, so she will need careful management and understanding in this area.
Since spending time getting to know Summer, we have found she is best walked on the lead and muzzled in quiet areas with a lot of smells to keep her occupied, woodland, heathland and farmer’s fields are the best for this, Summer would also benefit from the use of rented paddocks where she can safely have space to run and engage with her environment.
Although Summer is an independent girly when outside surrounded by intriguing smells and noises, she is also very affectionate and loves all the attention and training sessions she gets from her two-legged companions.
This clever, energetic girl would suit an experienced, committed home that understands spaniel traits and can offer her structure, mental stimulation, and kindness as she continues to build confidence and life skills. Summer is looking to be the only pet in a family home but could live with older teenagers that are able to help give her a quiet home with space and guidance to thrive.
