Who You Gonna Call? Coast Busters!

Going that extra mile… or 25!

We are always in awe of the level of dedication and kindness towards our work from our animal-loving community of supporters.

One friendship group in particular had been following the recent story of the 25 little dogs we had taken into our care from one house. They couldn’t stop thinking about how relieved they were that these dogs had now found the safety with us, that they so desperately needed and deserved.

Their empathy for the dogs and their story inspired the group of friends to put on their walking boots, pack some snacks and set off on a 25 mile sponsored walk – one mile to represent each dog we rescued. The ambitious route they planned to follow would start at our Church Knowle rehoming centre, and navigate the coastal path, until they arrived in Weymouth. And, so, the group was formed… The Coast Busters!

Who you gonna call? Coast Busters!

They arrived at the centre on Saturday, bright and early, and full of enthusiasm for their amazing endeavour. Greeted by our Chief Executive, Nigel Mason, and some of our Animal Welfare team, they were able to meet some of our other current rescue animals to give them that extra boost before they started out on their long journey. After they received some “oink, oink” encouragement from our super cute and chatty pig, Thelma, they were ready to go!

The journey was tough for the group, who had never attempted to walk such a long distance before. The terrain along our Dorset coastline is famous for its sheer beauty, and its steep hills! The group made it their mission to keep their spirits high by singing songs and dancing their way through all the gates along the way. They even met several people on their journey who very kindly gave fundraising donations on the spot.

Arriving in Weymouth after 12 hours of walking, 15,000 calories burnt and many blisters gained, the group were justifiably thrilled with their achievement. When explaining their reasons for wanting to support our work, group spokesperson, Ellie, said,

“Margaret Green Animal Rescue is a local organisation that we are so proud to have, and we're so happy to have been able to raise some money to support you.”

Their fundraising total currently sits at over £1,700, which will go such a long way towards helping us to provide the very best level of care for our rescue animals. We couldn’t be more grateful to Ellie, Lauren, Vicki, Hun, Sadie, Ellie B and Claire and Karen for their dedication, and for helping to raise awareness about our vital work with the rescue animals at our centres.

Well done, Coast Busters. On behalf of all our staff and animals – Thank you.
