Finding Forever Homes

Pawsome Day at Dog Show and Family Fun Day

11800594 846113082111353 4429449792246283585 nWe have reason to celebrate at Margaret Green Animal Rescue this week as our Companion Dog Show and Family Fun Day, our biggest fundraising event of the year, went brilliantly last sunday. Visitors and their pooches took part in the dog show, browsed the stalls, bought tickets for the grand draw and tucked into something delicious from the BBQ. We also saw the return of popular attractions such as the miniature traction engine and a beautiful old London bus belonging to, and driven down by the newly appointed chairman of Network Rail, Sir Peter Hendy.

Two of the most popular classes on the day, The Best MGAR Female and Best MGAR Male were reserved for dogs that have been rescued and rehomed by the charity. The top 4 dogs in both classes have qualified for the best rescue dog championship at Buckham Fair on Sunday 23rd August. The winners on the day were Candy the Boxer X who attended the event with her owner David Evans and Riley the crossbreed who came with his owner Lauren King. The Best in Show in the pedigree classes was Dee-Jay the Doberman who came with his owner Richard Winfield.

11825837 846110328778295 4282617289002729882 nHelen Chittock, Centre Manager at our Lincoln Farm branch, said: ‘It was fantastic to see so many of our rehomed dogs visiting us at the show and entering classes. We were all delighted to see Benny, who is now known as Dylan, looking well after his operations. When he first arrived we soon realised he needed a lot of surgery to make him comfortable. Our supporters who saw his story raised the funds and thanks to them, Dylan is feeling 100 times better and is loving life in his new home’.

At the end of the day, we awarded five of our volunteers the ‘Volunteer of the Year Award’. The awards recognise volunteers that go above and beyond to help our animals whether through practical help, fundraising and much more.  The two centre awards went to Jenny and Lottie Gaffney, for their hard work and dedication to the dogs at Lincoln Farm, and Richard Oldridge who has transformed the lives of the cats at Church Knowle by providing every pen with plants and pots and maintaining them every week. The fundraising volunteer of the year award went to Greg and Gail Edgings. Whether they are running the BBQ, building a carnival float or fundraising at an event, Greg and Gail do it with huge amounts of energy and enthusiasm. And finally the charity awarded a one-off 50th anniversary volunteer award for long service which was presented to Claire Tice. Claire began volunteering in 1984 when her granddad adopted his first dog from Lincoln Farm near Blandford. She is proudly volunteering still today in memory of her granddad and this award recognises her hard work and dedication over the years.
