We weathered the storm at Country Fayre!
25th September 2019
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Church Knowle Rehoming and Visitor Centre on Sunday 22nd September for our Country Fayre. Despite a rather wet start to the day, the team pulled together to finalise the event preparation, putting up marquees, arranging the activities and welcoming traders. Gates opened at 11:00 with a steady trickle of visitors and when the sun came out more people arrived to enjoy the day. Initial figures are around £2,000, all money raised will go towards caring for our rescue animals.
The event kicked off with Kingsmen Acoustic playing a set of well known songs in a stripped back acoustic style - the perfect Sunday morning vibe and a great start to the day. They were followed by the Shroton Ukulele Band who delighted us with old fashioned favourites played on their Ukuleles, it was great entertainment creating a feel good atmosphere with spectators signing and tapping their feet in time to the tunes.
A new feature for this year's Country Fayre was the wheelbarrow race. Participants had to negotiate a course wheeling a barrow containing a half filled bucket of water without spilling a drop in the fastest time possible. There were a few surprises along the way, especially when Mungo the MGAR mascot was being mischievous by moving around the course to slow everyone down! This was great fun and all those who took part received a goodie bag and rosette for their efforts.
The next group to perform were the Allsort'd Choir who are a local community group based in Swanage, with their own unique style in that they sign as they sing. Their performance was captivating and a delight to see. You can find out more about them at https://www.mylifemycare.com/article/7907/Allsortd-Choir.
More fun followed with Welly throwing fun with and adults and children alike showing off their skills. There was some impressive throws and techniques and even some near misses! The entertainment in the main ring was brought to a close a by a wonderful flying display and demonstration from Liberty's Birds of Prey.
Hay Bale Hurdles
The hay bale hurdle event was also popular again with dogs taking on the course and running enthusiastically from one end to the other, hurdling the haybales as they went and being enthusiastically cheered on by their owners. All participants were timed and there were some very fast runners but the overall winner was
Bella the Lurcher (owned by A. Mursell) in a time of 2.88 seconds!
There was so much to enjoy for the whole family throughout the event, including face painting, stories with Suzie, the chance to help build a bug house, childrens bakery, a giant tombola, fun games, vintage cars, The Bat Cave, The Wimborne Militia and the amazing Country Fayre raffle with awesome prizes, and not forgetting the wonderful Dog Olympics. There was also a variety of traders on site too offering local crafts, produce, gifts and festival food.
