Putting minds and paws at rest
A chance meeting between two charities has resulted in a partnership that will ease the minds of terminally ill patients.
Local charities Macmillan Caring Locally and Margaret Green Animal Rescue have established a partnership which will help to give peace of mind to those who are terminally ill and worrying about care for their pets. The charities were both nominated as charity of the year by Cobham PLC and fundraisers Lin Sharp, Capital Appeal Director at Macmillan Caring Locally and Jenni Wilkinson, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Margaret Green Animal Rescue, met at the company’s charity open day.
When you are experiencing palliative care, life is hard enough. You worry about your family and friends but add your pets to your concerns and it can feel like a mountain that is just too hard to climb. No-one wants to think about the ‘what ifs’ but this partnership means that no matter what happens, you don’t need to worry about the care and welfare of your pets.
Here at MGAR we offer a future care programme through our Legacy of Love scheme. This allows you to sign your pets into our care, should the worst happen and you are no longer able to care for them. It means that while you are able to look after them, they can stay with you. However, should anything happen, you can rest assured that they will be well looked after, the most suitable Forever Home will be found for them and your pets will be cared for in accordance with your wishes.
Jenni Wilkinson said “It’s never easy to think about what happens when you pass away but Future Care is there to give you peace of mind and comfort. We feel that by partnering with Macmillan Caring Locally, we can reduce some of the stress and heartache at such a difficult time.”
Lin Sharp said “This partnership will give comfort to our patients and their families to know that their much-loved pets will be cared for and given a Forever Home. Sometimes families of our patients will try to take care of their pet but are unable to look after due to their circumstances - maybe they live in a flat with a no pets policy or are at work all day. This will give our patients the peace of mind that their animal will be given a new life with carefully chosen families. We are very grateful to Cobham PLC for bringing us together!”
