Canine Activity Day (Dorset)
Canine Activity Day
Join us at Lincoln Farm for the MGAR Canine Activity Day on 31st March 2019 from 10:00 until 16:00. To whet your appetite you and your dog will be able to take part in taster sessions in Agility, Hoopers, Flyball and Rally. So far, we have Moonlight Dog Agility Club, Nightsabre Dog Training, Purbeck Agilty Group and Wessex Dash Hounds joining us on the day.
This brand new MGAR event aims to give everyday dog owners the opportunity to have a taster session of different popular canine pursuits without having to pay for or commit to a block of sessions. Our workshops are open to owners with dogs of all abilities, you don’t need to have any previous experience in the activities or even a well-trained dog! The up to one hour long group workshops provide the opportunity to receive a lesson in your chosen activity run by a local canine club and there is also no limit on the number of workshops you can attend on the day. There will also be time inbetween workshops to 'have a go'. Please note that workshops are not open to dogs under the age of six months or to females in season and dogs under 12 months old cannot take part in the Agility workshop.
In addition, to the workshops there will be tons of pre-loved doggie items available, so grab your four legged friend a bargain! Refreshments and hot food will also be available throughout the day.
10:00 – 11:00 & 15:00 – 16:00
Moonlight Dog Agility Club is a friendly Dorset based agility training club providing fun competitive and non-competitive classes, catering for dogs aged 6 months and over for all abilities from beginners upwards. The club holds fun days, runs a successful winter completion series and encourages its members to have fun and challenge themselves with the emphasis on fun. The club is run by Garry who has been competing with his dogs for over 17 years and is also a Kennel Club approved agility judge. Garry practices and teaches reward-based training methods so that you can achieve the best from your canine pal. The workshops will be open to complete beginners and more experienced handlers and dog duos.
Canine Hoopers Workshop
11:00 - 12:00 & 14:00 – 15:00
Canine Hoopers is a new dog sport that is gaining popularity in Dorset and throughout the UK. The dogs run through hoops, tunnels and around barrels on a low-impact, smooth flowing course. The tunnels are 80cm diameter - much larger than normal agility tunnels. The larger tunnels, and the lack of twists and sharp turns on Hoopers courses, means the sport is all breeds inclusive; from tiny Chihuahuas and Daschunds to larger breeds like St Bernards, Great Danes and Newfoundlands. It is also inclusive for people as well, those with limited mobility discover distance handling so they can send their dog round the course instead of trying to run with their canine friend. Purbeck Agility Group will be running this.
13:00 - 14:00 & 15:00 – 16:00
Wessex Dash Hounds will be running workshops in this popular dog sport where dogs race against each other over a line of low hurdles to a box which releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring loaded pad, they then run back to their handlers over the hurdles again while carrying the ball. Flyball is a high energy activity, which dogs love.
12:00 - 13:00 & 15:00 – 16:00
This is the very latest dog sport to be recognised by the kennel club. Rally involves you and your dog working as a team to navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform. It’s a bit like an obedience exercise obstacle course including simple exercises and it’s a lot of fun. The Rally workshop will be run by Nightsabre Dog Training.
