Hidden Heroes Rewarded
Hidden Heroes rewarded
Margaret Green Animal Rescue (MGAR), were thrilled to be able to recognise the work some of their volunteers do so selflessly for the animals recently, through a promotion called Room to Reward. The promotion is a way to highlight this amazing devotion to MGAR and all the animals, the Charity contacted Room to Reward, where hidden heroes within registered charities can be offered the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing and deserving short break.
Volunteers were put forward for the opportunity to win a break, and we were thrilled to receive the news that they were on their way to a wonderful time away. Here is their story:
Richard and Hilary Evans have been avid supporters of MGAR for more than 12 years, living in Devon they base their support from the Wingletang Rehoming Centre near Tavistock.
Their dedication to raising funds for MGAR has seen them car booting each weekend at Stonehouse Plymouth, which means them getting up at 0500 just to make sure they get a good pitch at the sale! Their enthusiasm doesn’t end there, they also help to raise funds by arranging music nights and pub quizzes, including a recent Christmas evening; during their time as supporters they have also rehomed over 19 animals.
Richard and Hilary who have raised more than £35,000 for MGAR said “We love to do our bit for MGAR and all the animals. When we go to the Car Boot, the other stall holders often have to look twice, as well as always being really busy, we have supporters bring donations in to sell as well as buy from us, we were so happy when we found out about the award, we do it for the animals and not the recognition, but was very much appreciated”.
Niki and Alan Ging who are joint centre managers at Wingletang were full of praise for Richard and Hilary “We couldn’t do all the wonderful things our centres achieve for our pets without volunteers, either raising much needed donations or helping with the animals and events, all of it is so important to the work we do. We were thrilled to be able to nominate Richard and Hilary, we hope they have a wonderful break, they deserve it.”
In Dorset, Jan and Dave Green are avid supporters of the Margaret Green Animal Rescue Centres (MGAR) volunteering at our Church Knowle Centre near Wareham and our shop in Winton.
Always eager to help, even with some of our muddier and more difficult jobs, Jan and Dave could be poo picking in the fields or cat cuddling to help socialise the cats waiting for their forever home. It’s not all glamorous jobs, but they are all worthwhile for the animals, and Jan and Dave are happy to do whatever is required.
It’s not just the pets that Jan and Dave support, they are hugely popular with all the staff for the wonderful baking they bring in. Stalwarts of the MGAR events in Dorset, Kelly Griffin said “We are so happy that we have volunteers like Dave and Jan who can represent our charity, we contacted Room 2 Reward as we believed they deserve recognition for the extensive volunteering they so do so tirelessly.
Jan and Dave Green who are very modest about the work they do said “We were thrilled to win, we love the animals, particularly what we like to call ‘our’ Goats, and the staff here at MGAR, for us it is all about the animals and we are happy to do what is needed, we would encourage people to make contact and see how they can help too”
Kate Wickins, Centre Manager at Church Knowle was full of praise for Jan and Dave “They aren’t just popular with the staff, the animals love them too, volunteers are vital to the centre and it was a fabulous opportunity to be able to say a huge thank you from us all”.
Room to Reward who offered the relaxing break, said “We ask Charities to let us know about those supporters who quietly make a real difference to the charities they are volunteering for, and when we heard about Jan and Dave, and Hilary and Richard, it was clear they really match our criteria and we were thrilled to be able to offer the breaks to them.
