Avian Influenza Prevention Zone 2018
Information on the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone
In response to the heightened risk of H5N6 highly pathogenic avian influenza, following cases involving wild birds confirmed in South Dorset earlier in January, Margaret Green Animal Rescue (MGAR) instigated protocols to protect their Poultry and Captive birds, and keep them separate from wild birds.
DEFRA announced a Prevention Zone on the 18th January which applies to everyone who keeps poultry or captive birds in England.
Our biosecurity procedures involve a number of actions including:
- Where necessary poultry and captive birds being moved to the most appropriate area on site
- Covers on water and feeding areas where suitable
- Minimising direct and indirect contact with wild birds
- Taking all reasonable precautions to avoid the transfer of contamination on site
If you would like to know more about the Prevention Zone which has been placed by DEFRA, there is information in our Visitor Centre at Church Knowle or you can look at the website for the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs
What does it mean to your visit to our Centres?
You are welcome to visit, we are taking precautions for our Poultry and Wild Birds, but this shouldn’t affect your enjoyment of the centre.
